Asylum Seekers and Refugees

Our work focuses on equipping churches, individuals and communities to offer practical support to asylum seekers and refugees, from information and advice to friendship and community integration. We coordinate a network in Greater Nottingham for churches who support refugees, asylum seekers, migrant workers and international students through English classes, befriending or other activities. The aim is to share learning, ideas and to be a port of call for other churches who would like to do more in this area. For more information see Churches Supporting Refugees network

One church involved with this is St Nics in Nottingham city centre. They run an English class that has over 40 people attending, including students who are too young to access other classes, a community meal, and they are in the process of setting up a house through Hope Into Action to house refugee young people.

WELCOME CHURCHES vision is for every refugee in the UK to be welcomed by their local church. The organisation says "Your church is rich in resources and skills that make you a welcoming community! No matter where your church is, or what your experience has been so far, Welcome Churches can better equip you to welcome and integrate refugees into your community. The Welcome Churches team has a wealth of experience in welcoming refugees and asylum seekers arriving in the UK. No matter how refugees are arriving in your area, we want to help you to be a welcoming community for them."
